$100K - The Very One - Pimlico Race 11
Big field with several returning off extended layoffs. Expect a handful of scratches (wouldn't surprise me to see the #2, #4 or #5 scratch); still should be several runners left.
A lot of early speed -- of course -- it is a turf sprint. Difficult to imagine a few a these hooking up early and hanging on.
#7 Girls Know Best (3/1 ML) freaked after breaking very sharp at Keeneland in her latest start. Even if first time turfer Victoria's Fire scratches, she will have to deal with Just Talkin' and Keep Your Distance both breaking on her outside.
#11 Smiling Causeway (7/2 ML) might be a safe play. Appears versatile, pace-wise, and almost broke her maiden over the Pimlico main track just in cause this gets rained off. I' m not overly concerned with the layoff, her trainer A. Delacour is over 30% with similar.
If this does get moved to the main track, I would definitely consider #6 Jessica Krupnick (30/1 ML). Gets off the rail after running a decent 4th in the (G3) Whimsical versus some experienced synthetic racers. Shortening up could help, second time turf is still a question mark.
#12 Just Talkin (9/2 ML) is another versatile runner with some good form this year. Her trainer is very good with fresh runners and this jockey/trainer combo can be deadly.
